General

3G
is a common name used in the telecommunications industry for a service that allows mobile access to the internet. It allows you to browse through internet pages, as well as download content such as videos and music without being restricted to a fixed line broadband connection or a Wi-Fi hotspot.

ImageWith companies like Turkcell and Telsim it’s possible to equip your laptop with 3G using a dedicated ‘dongle’. This plugs into your laptop device via the USB and means that you don’t need to go on a trek to find a wireless hub or hotspot in order to connect to the internet.

Of course, as 3G Mobile Broadband relies on strong reception it’s not always possible to link up to a connection, especially in more rural areas.

Will it work in my villa?

We have had many enquiries regarding the New 3G service from Turkcell but the main questions we keep being asked are

"Will it work in my villa?"
"What if I buy it and it will not work at my location?"

ImageTo overcome these uncertainties SystemLogix has created a new service within Northern Cyprus. For a small fee we can come to your location and check to see what signal you are receiving. This will then help you make the decision as to whether to purchase the 3G system or not.

Our fee for this service starts at 25TL per visit (price many vary due to location).

How does 3G compare to wireless?

ImageHaving used both systems over the past year. We can confirm that this has to be the best option for connecting to the internet in North Cyprus. Even more so if you are a laptop user. At our location we have a weak signal and are getting speeds of between 200kbps and 600kbps. However, when moving to a location with a good signal the speed has been on average around 1.5 - 2Mbps.

ImageWhere else can you get a 1.5mbps connection for 70ytl a month?

Keep It Fast

The software that comes bundled with the 3g modem has been preconfigured. The standard setup is OK but can lead to a slower connection. The preferred method of connection is UMTS but what can happen if the signal drops slightly, it will revert to GPRS, which is much slower.

ImageYou can force the connection to stay with UMTS by making a very simple change in the configuration settings. Read these instructions to see how to do it and remember you do not have to be a computer geek to do it.

There is no guarantee this will work for everyone but worth a try especially if your modem keeps going to GPRS. Remember, you can always change it back.
